The dog’s eyes color is an hereditary characteristic.
All hereditary characteristics are a part of the genetic baggage.
The lightening of the eyes colour is due to the loss of concentration of the dye substance (melanin), factor which becomes manifested in hereditary genetic characteristic.

Coincidentally, following the lightening of the eyes colour, an alteration in temper in the courage factor also makes part of the genetic baggage.

The loss of courage may manifest itself in several ways:
1. Shyness.
2. Dependency.
3. Decrease of self-confidence.

4. Nervousness and excessive agitation.
5. Increase of aggressiveness caused by fear.
6. Several neurosis.

The Rottweiler Club of Germany (Allgemeiner Deutscher Rottweiler Klub) had an eye color catalogue made in order to reduce more and more the interpretation of the Judge in evaluating dogs in Dog Shows and, with that, reducing injustices.

This way, in the issue color, the eyes are qualified of
Excellent – specimens that by comparison, present the eyes color 1a or 1b,
Very Good – those who present the eyes color classified as 2a or 2b,
Goodthose who present the color 3a
Sufficientthose who present the color 3b and
Disqualifiedthose who present the color 4a, 4b, 5 and 6

Light eyed dogs always bring, in their genetic baggage, the courage decreasing factor to face the fear. It does not mean that dark eyed dogs have in their baggage enough courage to surpass all their fears. So, when you choose a puppy, always select those with darker eyes. Your chances of bringing home an aggressive dog, a fear biter, or a shy dog, will be very little. If you find light eyes cute, surely you’re taking home a problem for the next ten years.
