If dogs were racists, mongrel street dogs wouldnt exist.
Theres something indeed!... And the problem comes from long time ago. Since the import of the Fila Dog of Portugal to Brazil to catch the Negro slaves that by any chance tried to flee.
One of the early missions of the Brazilian Fila, on the contrary of what we may suppose, was not being a cattle dog, but a guard dog. In that period, we didnt think about cynophily and, much less, about standard preservation. So the Fila was only a dog. A dog that watched over the slaves. On escapes, the slaves were caught by dogs. The white men passed their hate against the escaping Negroes to the dogs. The Negro slaves, on their turn, spread among themselves the news that dogs dont like Negroes.
To this day, white men
and Negroes sustain the myth that "dogs dont like Negroes".
When a white man passes, with his little dog, by another white man and he barks...
"Oh! What a cute dog!" When a Negro passes by, instinctive and
unconsciously, he shortens the leash and transmits to his dog the fear that he could bite
the Negro. This one, on his turn, noticing the owners fear, make the pantomime of
fear and, changing the rhythm of the walk, goes away walking slower with care and fear.
There are several colored people that own guard dogs that dislike white men when theyre invaders or aggressive.
